Research

Inviting rigorous inquiry

We integrate diverse philosophical, scientific and scholarly methodologies in order to enhance our understandings of the human~nature relationship. We are open to novel approaches that may fall outside of usual norms and convention, particularly if this enables the untethered exploration of new ideas in support of systemic change.

Our team can also advise on bespoke nature-based interventions, such as tailored experiences and programmes for optimising urban and workplace wellbeing, including biomimicry and biophilic design. We are also at the forefront of nature-connection innovations, such as the design, facilitation an evaluation of walks/trails which serve to amplify the diverse benefits (e.g. health & wellbeing, pro-social / pro-nature behaviours) of time spent outdoors.

Our current collaborative research is focused on:

  1. Innovative ways for monitoring, evaluating and assessing the impact of meaningful nature experiences across a variety of outdoor education and wilderness programmes  (in partnership with CST-Stellenbosch University)
  2. Designing and implementing nature wellness trails and related nature-based health interventions for optimising health outcomes in urban settings (in partnership with The Connective and Macquarie University)’
  3. Researching and developing deep learning programmes that translate the Sea Change Project into immersive education experiences with change-making outcomes.
